GPS (School of Global Policy and Strategy) は、2015年7月に前身のIR/PS (School of International Relations and Pacific Studies) から校名変更され設立しました。
校名変更の背景としては、IR/PS時代と同様にアジア太平洋地域にフォーカスを置きつつも、よりグローバルな規模での問題解決能力を養うことを強調するため、とされています(Dean. Peter Cowhey)。
校名変更に伴い、学位の名称も一部変更となりました。
・２年制プログラム：MPIA (Master of Pacific and International Affairs) （旧）→ MIA (Master of International Affairs)（新）
・１年制プログラム：Master of Advanced Studies in International Affairs (MAS-IA)（変更なし）
・２年制プログラム：Master of Public Policy (MPP)（新設）
